Abstract

In the first place, the contribution presents a relational quality evaluation system to assess Nursing Homes. This evaluation system (VQR) involves the single Nursing Homes managers, as well as operators and family members. The constructs on which the evaluation is based are, through a set of empirical variables, are the commitment (on the side of the operators) and recognition (on the side of the family members). The outcomes of the research, that allow as to detect the most significant indicators in Nursing Homes evaluation are then presented and discuss. It has to be notice the presence of an agreement between the family members and the operators on the importance to set up an individualized project for the elderlies as well as on the need to maintain the relationships between them and the networks they are part of. The active and frequent involvement of family members in the care project is also considered as a guarantee of an high quality service. The disagreement in the evaluation of operators and family members is considered as indicating an high level of problems in the organization. Moreover, starting from the actual application of the VQR to some Nursing Homes, several cases of family assessment using the Family Life Space (FLS) in particular, are considered. The main idea underlying the research project is that Nursing Homes are crucial when they come to supporting those families facing an elderly member’s severe disease and helping them to deal with the generational passage
