Nine guard books containing about 1,000 manuscript maps (1810-1899) were the subject of a research and conservation project carried out at the School for the Preservation and Conservation of Cultural Heritage in the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia (Villa Manin di Passariano, Italy). The maps form part of the Tavolare cadastral system introduced to the Austro-Hungarian territories in the late 18th century and are still frequently referred to at the Tavolare Office in Trieste because of their enduring probative value. A conservation intervention was urgently needed in order to contrast their rapid deterioration and facilitate digital reproduction. This paper describes our preliminary historical and scientific research, and the documentation procedures and treatments performed to ensure the long-term preservation of this unique body of cultural heritage.

Abstract
This paper describes our preliminary historical and scientific research, and the documentation procedures and treatments performed to ensure the long-term preservation of this unique body of cultural heritage.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
