The essay presents the activity of two small-business organizations in post-WWII Italy: Coldiretti (active for the safeguard of small land- and business owners and tenants), and Confagricoltura, the “trade union” of large landowners and farmers.
The essay discusses the process of formation of the Consiglio Superiore del Lavoro from 1902 to 1923. The Council is an administrative institution that represents the organ composition of relations between the interests of employers and workers. The essay is divided into several chapters: the identity of the Council; the historical and quantitative analysis of the presence of entrepreneurs in the Council; the functioning of the institution and the role of trade associations; the effects of mediation with the market regulation; the several projects to reform until the suppression.
