Short contribution to the intellectual history of the French Dominicans in the XX Century, with special regard for biographies and doctrines of some of the most innovative and brave figures (Lagrange, Chenu, Congar), for a long time strongly-opposed by the Roman hierarchy: their difficult and complex relationships with eminent Modernists (specially Loisy) and with the heritage of Modernism; their contributions to the renewal of biblical, theological and ecclesiological studies in a new perspective, characterized by historical approaches.
