The database ‘Archivio corrispondenza gonzaghesca’ (http:banchedatigonzaga.centropalazzote.it/collezionismo/) contains thousands of records concerning letters written from and to the Court of Mantua (1563-1630). This essay shows how documents can be used for different topics: e. g. History of Italian literature, History of book printing, History of Inquisition and censorship, Lexicography. Some of the documents are unpublished and some others are little known; the interrogation of the database allows to connect them in previously unexperienced ways and to push research further.
