Pino Pedano e l’Università Cattolica. Legami con le origini/ Pino Pedano in the Università Cattolica: Links with its Origins

The essay for the catalog “Pino Pedano. Awakening”, as a project carried out by the Università Cattolica in collaboration with the artist Pino Pedano for the 90th anniversary of the foundation of the University. The essay reconstructs, through the historical path of the origins of the university and of the intentions of Father Gemelli, the link between the birth of the university project and the commissioning of some works of art for its spaces. The critical reflection reveals some characteristics of the history of patronage and the cultural role of those works in comparison and continuity with the present history. The paper then focuses on the proper nature of the university as a laboratory of ideas to understand the link of it with the type of exposition along its spaces, evocative of its history and daily crossed, as well as on the nature of the artistic process fielded by Pedano that touches important disciplinary matters in contemporary art such as the art-nature node as the most exciting factor of personal conversion.

Il saggio (italiano e inglese) per il catalogo Pino Pedano. Risveglio, quale progetto realizzato dall’Università Cattolica nel 90° anniversario dalla fondazione dell’Ateneo in collaborazione con l’artista Pino Pedano, ricostruisce, nel tragitto storico delle origini dell’ateneo e delle intenzioni di Padre Gemelli, il nesso tra la nascita del progetto universitario e la committenza di alcune opere d’arte volute per i suoi spazi. La riflessione critica mette in luce alcune caratteristiche proprie di quella storia di committenza e la portata culturale di cui quelle opere furono interpreti nel paragone e in continuità con la storia del presente. Il saggio si concentra poi sulla natura propria dell’università come laboratorio di idee per comprenderne il nesso con il tipo d’esposizione disseminata negli spazi evocativi della sua storia e di attraversamento quotidiano, oltre che sulla natura stessa del processo artistico messo in campo da Pedano che tocca questioni disciplinari importanti per l’arte contemporanea come il nodo arte-natura all’interno del più emozionante fattore di conversione personale.
