Post-war Italy has largely disowned the conspicuous heritage of two great thinkers such as Gentile and Croce for reasons that are more political and ideological than properly philosophical. But Gentile has had a considerable influence upon Italian Spiritualism, Personalism and Neo-Scholasticism; on the other hand the devaluation of scientific knowledge for which Croce has been criticized was often misinterpreted.
