The forms of charity and beneficence preferred by the nobility (milites) in Milan between the end of the thirteenth and the first decades of the fourteenth century take on their characters that differ from those implemented by the wealthy popular people. The paper examines first acts of last will determined by some members of the citizen nobility for the benefit of the convents of the mendicant orders in the city, which show the will to keep alive the memory of the prestige of the family with the construction of important artifacts at the center burial. The monumental building of chapels, equipped with rich vestments for the officiating priests, are usually accompanied to the request for periodic celebrations of suffrage, accompanied by the distribution of food particularly well on the anniversary of death. The rich bourgeoisie, however, is more concerned about tying their memory charities, especially for the poor and the sick: through the example of Bonvesin da la Riva you can catch the interest of the bourgeoisie for the poor, among then especially for the city hospitals and the friars of the mendicant orders.

Le forme di carità e beneficenza preferite dalla nobiltà (i milites) tra la fine del XIII e i primi decenni del XIV secolo assumono caratteri propri che le differenziano da quelle attuate dai ceti popolari benestanti. Il contributo esamina dapprima gli atti di ultima volontà stabiliti da alcuni esponenti della nobiltà cittadina a vantaggio dei conventi degli Ordini mendicanti della città, dai quali emerge la volontà di mantenere viva la memoria del prestigio della famiglia con la costruzione di importanti manufatti artistici con al centro la sepoltura. La costruzione di cappelle monumentali e dotate con ricchi arredi sacri per i sacerdoti officianti si accompagnava solitamente alla richiesta di periodiche celebrazioni di suffragio, accompagnate dalla distribuzione di cibi particolarmente curati nelle ricorrenze dei testatori. La ricca borghesia, invece, appare più preoccupata di legare la propria memoria a opere di beneficenza, in particolare a favore dei poveri e dei malati: l'esempio di Bonvesin da la Riva consente di cogliere l'interesse della borghesia per i poveri, tra i quali un posto privilegiato spettava agli ospedali cittadini ed extracittadini e ai frati degli Ordini mendicanti.
