The article highlights the main aspects of Alessandro Manzoni’s philosophical reflections on the topics of word and language. Then the contribution analyses some pages of his treatise On the Language that are not well known and it contextualizes these Manzonian texts in the widest European setting, in particular the French-German context, between the 18th and 19th Centuries.
