Several studies based on analysis of accidents have shown that the "human factor" is the cause of two-thirds of accidents, but they don’t consider the organizational context. Unsafe behaviors, instead, have three causal mechanisms: risk perception, risk propensity and safety climate. This paper presents a review of psychosocial studies about these factors and describes three projects focused on the promotion of safe behaviors; they demonstrate the interdependence of these factors and how, by acting on one, it is possible to create proper preconditions to change the other ones.

Abstract
Several studies based on analysis of accidents have shown that the "human factor" is the cause of two-thirds of accidents, but they don’t consider the organizational context. Unsafe behaviors, instead, have three causal mechanisms: risk perception, risk propensity and safety climate. This paper presents a review of psychosocial studies about these factors and describes three projects focused on the promotion of safe behaviors; they demonstrate the interdependence of these factors and how, by acting on one, it is possible to create proper preconditions to change the other ones.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
