This article defines the concepts of social distance and of xenophobia, and proposes two indices to measure their importance, on the basis of results of the European Value Study. Among other things, the analysis shows that both indices are inversely proportional to the size of the territorial affiliations, to the socio-cultural status, to a progressivist political orientation and to the confidence in the European Union.

Abstract
This article defines the concepts of social distance and of xenophobia, and proposes two indices to measure their importance, on the basis of results of the European Value Study. Among other things, the analysis shows that both indices are inversely proportional to the size of the territorial affiliations, to the socio-cultural status, to a progressivist political orientation and to the confidence in the European Union.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
