The pedagogical reflection rarely was confronted with the issue of the death of a spouse. Were prevalent psychological studies (strategies of mourning) and the indications coming from the pastoral care of families (reading of mourning in the light of religious faith). From the pedagogical point of view, the contribution deals with the search of possible approaches to help overcome the sense of suffering and the existential emptiness caused by the loss of a spouse.
