The relationship with the mother in the first years of life is not only vital for the survival of the newborn but is considered a prototype model on the basis of which also later relationships with others are forged. This contribution identified four main functions performed by interaction with the mother in the development of the child: comprehension and regulation of emotions, forming of affective bonds, social comprehension, and development of language.
