The paper illustrates the presence of some alchemical themes in Western culture: incest or alchemic androgynous, chemical weddings, four colors, elemental spirits, the philosopher's stone or the elixir of life or drinkable gold, four phases of the work: nigredo, albedo and citrinitas and rubedo. These themes are found not only in German literature, but also in the Homeric Hymn to Demeter, in Isis and Osiris by Plutarch, in Apuleius' Golden Ass. In Dante’s Inferno (see XXXIV, 37-45), Lucifer has three faces on his head, one red, one white and black and one yellow. Even the four horses of the Apocalypse (6, 1-8) are white, red, black, and greenish.
Il contributo illustra la presenza di alcune tematiche alchemiche nella cultura occidentale: Incesto o androgino alchemico, nozze chimiche, quattro colori, spiriti elementari, pietra filosofale o elisir di lunga vita o oro potabile, quattro fasi dell’opera: nigredo, albedo e citrinitas e rubedo. Esse sono riscontrabili non solo nella letteratura tedesca, bensì anche nell’inno omerico a Demetra, nell’Iside e Osiride di Plutarco, nell’Asino d’oro di Apuleio. Nell’Inferno di Dante ai versi 37-45 del XXXIV canto Lucifero ha tre facce sulla testa, una rossa, una bianca e gialla e una nera. Persino i quattro cavalli dell’Apocalisse (6, 1-8) sono uno bianco, uno rosso, uno nero, uno verdastro.
