Bildung, as the harmonious cultural formation process for man, and Kultur, as the intellectual portrait of an age and of a civilization, as result and aim of personal education, as a fundamental value of a person are two strictly related categories. In Alberti, they celebrate the solitary mission of the scholar, who is devoted to wisdom and virtue: the latter afflict him to the point of making him miserable and sad. Far from civil humanism, Alberti contrasts the integral formation of man and the fulfilled human education.

Bildung, come formazione armonica dell’uomo e processo di sviluppo, e Kultur come portato intellettuale di un’epoca e di una civiltà, risultato e scopo della educazione personale, valore fondamentale della persona, sono categorie strettamente intrecciate, che in Alberti celebrano la missione solitaria del letterato, dedito alla sapienza e alla virtù che lo tormentano fino a renderlo misero e infelice. Lontano dall’umanesimo civile, Alberti contrappone la formazione dell’uomo integrale e la compiuta educazione umana.
