In the history of the debate about textual criticism many scholars tend to regard differences among witnesses as "variants", while others emphasise the idea of "error". Through the systematic exam of a closed corpus (St Gallen liturgical manuscripts) the article shows that both errors (often "mechanical" errors) and true variants are clearly witnessed by these manuscripts.
Nel dibattito tra i sostenitori della prevalenza del concetto di "variante" e i sostenitori della prevalenza del concetto di "errore", questo studio apporta un contributo costruito sull'esame di un corpus chiuso (manoscritti liturgici sangallesi) mostrando come esistano sia prove di sicuri errori, spesso meccanici, sia di autentiche varianti.
