The paper considers some phases of the history of Euboea from 506 to 411 BC, focusing on some aspects: in particular, the peculiar geopolitical position of the island between Aegean sea and Greek mainland and the fluctuating relations with Athens and Boeotia, depending on the internal political orientations (both in democratic and oligarchic sense) of the Euboean cities and on their connections with the political parties of the foreign powers nearby .
