Education is an invaluable means towards the attainment of personal fulfillment and a well-functioning society. It is the most important gift ever to be handed down from generation to generation. Children’s essential needs can only be met in a genuine and fruitful relationship with significant adult figures, willing to commit themselves to the pedagogical endeavor. The typical human tension to establishing relations brings with it an intrinsic ethical need that prompts the individual to carry out a specific moral task, that is the humanization of the other. Such pedagogical commitment has found in Janus Korczak and in Rev. Lorenzo Milani two exemplar witnesses.

L’educazione è un mezzo prezioso per favorire lo sviluppo di ogni persona e la realizzazione di una società migliore. È il dono più grande che le generazioni che sono più avanti negli anni possono fare alle giovani generazioni. I bisogni fondamentali dei bambini possono essere accolti solo da un reale e fecondo incontro con adulti significativi che sappiano ascoltare le loro esigenze e siano disposti a lasciarsi coinvolgere nella relazione educativa. La tensione umana alla relazione ha in sé una intrinseca esigenza etica che spinge l’uomo all’assunzione di un preciso compito morale: l’umanizzazione dell’altro. Tale impegno educativo a favore delle giovani generazioni ha trovato in Janus Korczak e in don Lorenzo Milani due testimoni esemplari.
