In this essay we are proposing the transition in Proust from a rhetoric which derives completely from symbolism (basically synaesthesia, complex syntax) to the use of this same rhetoric (metaphor, synaesthesia, syntax) or rather to a rhetoric which is only apparently the same, which allows the writer to get close to a linguistic materialitywhich no longer reproduces a harmonious and organised universe, but carnal knowledge (which needs to be continually renewed) of the world, as contemporary phenomenology views it.

Abstract

In this essay we are proposing the transition in Proust from a rhetoric which derives completely from symbolism (basically synaesthesia, complex syntax) to the use of this same rhetoric (metaphor, synaesthesia, syntax) or rather to a rhetoric which is only apparently the same, which allows the writer to get close to a linguistic materialitywhich no longer reproduces a harmonious and organised universe, but carnal knowledge (which needs to be continually renewed) of the world, as contemporary phenomenology views it.
