The article presents the work of Elibeth Carter, one of the best known translator of the works of Epictetus from the Greek in the Eighteenth century. A lesser-known translation by Carter is Francesco Algarotti's Newtonianismo per le Dame, from the Italian, which was published anonymously in 1739. The article discusses Carter's translation strategies in this work.
