Moschione. Frammenti

This volume presents an edition, translation, and commentary of the surviving fragments of Moschion of Athens. It aims to synthesize, update, and expand upon existing scholarship (by Schramm, Xanthakis-Karamanos, Stephanopoulos, Cropp, and others) through an analysis of the extant verses that considers linguistic and stylistic features, cultural content, and a broad network of intertextual connections. The commentary on the individual fragments is preceded by an introduction that situates the enigmatic figure of this tragedian within his context, addressing all the key issues surrounding him: it provides a status quaestionis of current scholarship, a discussion of the sparse archaeological evidence and the sources of the texts, a historical and geographical framework for Moschion, and a comprehensive analysis of his style and primary thematic concerns.
