La transizione alla genitorialità

After defining parenthood as a relationship (as opposed to an expression of either individual fulfilment or the couple’s narcissism) this essay considers the different currentdevelopments in the transition from the family dyad to the triad (deferred/assisted/social parenthood, non-parenthood as both vo and the result of abortion). The empirical evidence reveals that, in the socio-cultural atmosphere of post-modernity, the postponement of procreation is the most widespread choice among couples. Furthermore, transformations in the identities of mother and father are examined in light of the changes undergone by adult identities. Finally, the focus is shifted onto parenthood in the different, currently widespread, family forms (divorced/blended/de facto families).

Il contributo, dopo aver definito la genitorialità come relazione (non come realizzazione individuale o espressione del narcisismo di coppia), prende in esame le diverse modalità secondo le quali avviene oggi la transizione dalla diade alla triade familiare (genitorialità differita, assistita,sociale non genitorialità,sia come conseguenza dell’aborto, sia come childfree); l’evidenza empirica mette in luce come nel clima socio-culturale della post-modernità, il differimento della scelta procreativa sia la scelta più diffusa tra le coppie. Vengono poi analizzate le trasformazioni dell’identità materna, in relazione ai mutamenti delle identità adulte; da ultimo, l’attenzione viene rivolta alla genitorialità nelle diverse forme familiari oggi diffuse (famiglie divorziate,famiglie ricostituite, famiglie di fatto)
