Starting from the recognition of research as a constitutive dimension of educational professionalism, this paper presents an experience in which undergraduate research (UR) was adopted as a strategy to foster students’ research competences while simultaneously producing scientifically valid knowledge. The experience focused on the assessment of learning in higher education and involved a group of 15 students enrolled in a master’s degree programme in the pedagogical field, who participated as co-researchers. Students were actively engaged in all phases of the research process: from the construction of the theoretical framework to the identification and operationalisation of key concepts, from the design of the research instrument to the selection of participants and data collection in the field. Given the innovative nature of the initiative, the experience was accompanied by a monitoring and evaluation plan aimed at capturing students’ perceptions and supporting reflection on the learning processes activated. The findings reveal a high level of appreciation for the experience and indicate that students had the opportunity to become familiar with a research-oriented habitus and to develop both methodological and transversal competences. In conclusion, the proposed undergraduate research experience confirms the potential of this approach as a means of learning research through research, while also drawing attention to the resources and costs required to ensure its sustainability and transferability.

Abstract
In conclusion, the proposed undergraduate research experience confirms the potential of this approach as a means of learning research through research, while also drawing attention to the resources and costs required to ensure its sustainability and transferability.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
