Immaginari algoritmici. Una ricostruzione gramsciana

This contribution addresses the cultural and imaginative dimension of algorithms, understood not merely as technical devices but as a "social fact" capable of transforming subjects' perceptions, behaviors, and living conditions. Starting from the idea of the "digital revolution" as a new form of cultural hegemony internalized by contemporary societies, the essay proposes a Gramscian reconstruction of algorithmic imaginaries. Employing Gramsci's categories of hegemony, common sense, and popular culture, the contribution reconstructs how cultural industry has narrativized algorithms in popular culture, identifying two divergent discursive strands: one rooted in mainstream, hegemonic discourse that normalizes algorithms as neutral tools; the other promoting critical and alternative narratives that unveil underlying power dynamics and the implications of datafication.
