The phenomenon of adult male inactivity in Italy represents a structural issue within the Italian labor market and one of the main determinants of household impoverishment. Therefore, given the nature of the subject of the study, it was decided to start a scoping review with the specific aim of identifying the available evidence in the literature in order to determine the most appropriate concepts and definitions for the subsequent development of research questions and related investigation tools. Additionally, the review aims to examine how the issue has been addressed in other disciplines, with the goal of identifying potentially related factors that may not be immediately recognizable through a monothematic analysis, which could risk the perpetuating of the aforementioned knowledge gap. The study is part of a broader research project on the topic of adult male inactivity, funded by the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan and directed by Prof. Laura Zanfrini; the title of the project is (Im)Perfect Strangers. A Transdisciplinary Study on the Phenomenon of Inactivity Among Adult Men.
