The elections in Bulgaria in April 2026 secured victory for the former President of the Republic, Rumen Radev, who stood as a candidate for his new party. Radev was able to rally voters disillusioned by a fragmented political system and managed, in a very short space of time, to put together a viable progressive alternative. The new Prime Minister will have to refute accusations that he is Eurosceptic and has a pro-Russian stance, whilst at the same time seeking to establish a system in Bulgaria that will finally bring stability.

Abstract

The elections in Bulgaria in April 2026 secured victory for the former President of the Republic, Rumen Radev, who stood as a candidate for his new party. Radev was able to rally voters disillusioned by a fragmented political system and managed, in a very short space of time, to put together a viable progressive alternative. The new Prime Minister will have to refute accusations that he is Eurosceptic and has a pro-Russian stance, whilst at the same time seeking to establish a system in Bulgaria that will finally bring stability.
