This essay examines the journey undertaken by Count Giovanni Negroboni across Europe during the years of the War of the Spanish Succession, drawing on his previously unpublished travel diary. Through the analysis of this unique firsthand account, the article reconstructs the itinerary, experiences, and observations of an Italian nobleman travelling through a continent marked by political and military conflict. The diary offers valuable insights into contemporary perceptions of European societies, courtly culture, and international relations, while also shedding light on the practices and motivations of aristocratic travel in the early eighteenth century. By bringing this unpublished source to scholarly attention, the essay contributes to a deeper understanding of mobility, cultural exchange, and the lived experience of war-time Europe.
