The term qualitative research refers to a set of theories, concepts, ideas and practices to produce knowledge in social sciences and humanities which brings together perspectives with different ontological, epistemological, methodological, political and ethical characteristics. In this entry, we first describe the main paradigms that characterize qualitative research; then we briefly outline its history within work and organizational psychology. Following this, we explore some of the key issues that characterize the purposes of qualitative research and the debate around its status and quality criteria. Finally, we reflect on its present challenges and future developments.

Abstract
The term qualitative research refers to a set of theories, concepts, ideas and practices to produce knowledge in social sciences and humanities which brings together perspectives with different ontological, epistemological, methodological, political and ethical characteristics. In this entry, we first describe the main paradigms that characterize qualitative research; then we briefly outline its history within work and organizational psychology. Following this, we explore some of the key issues that characterize the purposes of qualitative research and the debate around its status and quality criteria. Finally, we reflect on its present challenges and future developments.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
