This article analyses the Dresden Gallery exhibition, which was held at the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts (Moscow) in 1955, during the period of partial liberalization of the culture, known as the Khrushchev’s Thaw. After years of isolation, the 1955 exhibition was enthusiastically welcomed by Soviet public. With its impactful success, it marked a period of rediscovery of Western art and widely influenced Soviet culture, art, and literature. The present article offers a reconstruction of the organizational steps taken in the context of the exhibition, while also elucidating the perception of the Western artworks from the Soviet public.
