The present paper focuses on argumentative discourse relations and their linguistic markers. Particular attention is devoted to epistemic modal markers used for the expression of conclusion relations, which are investigated in a contrastive perspective, highlighting the preference of Russian and Eastern Slavic languages for modal adverbial forms rather than modal verbs as linguistic indicators for the argumentative relations of conclusion.
