This contribute explores food activism as a field of political engagement, where food becomes a site for contesting power, negotiating social relations, and envisioning more just responsible and sustainable futures. The entry examines the structural transformations of the global food system that have sparked diverse forms of resistance. The entry also highlights how food activism manifests across a range of practices, from local initiatives like urban gardens and farmers’ markets to transnational alliances such as La Vía Campesina and Slow Food. Emphasizing the interplay between individual and collective actions, the analysis maps the main dichotomies of contemporary food activism—local/global, individual/collective, offline/online—and presents a typology distinguishing between practice-based and demand-based forms of engagement. Ultimately, the contribution frames food activism as a critical response to the contradictions and crises of the contemporary food system.

Abstract
Ultimately, the contribution frames food activism as a critical response to the contradictions and crises of the contemporary food system.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
