This essay traces the path of industrial development-particularly that of small and medium-sized enterprises-in a specific area of the province of Brescia. The focus extends from the fringes of Lake Garda, including Campione del Garda, Toscolano, Salò, and Desenzano, through the midland zones such as Bedizzole and Lonato, to the eastern plains with the notable case of Montichiari. This development unfolded amidst a complex interplay of actors-both institutional and non-institutional-as well as a range of factors operating at both local and international levels. The result is a highly heterogeneous landscape, marked by variations in pace and outcomes. Ultimately, this industrial growth has profoundly reshaped the affected territories-economically, socially, and culturally.
