Documents evidence the arrival in Milan of several papal legates since 1057, at the time of the tensions growing within Milanese society owing to the preaching of the deacon Arialdo and his followers, the Patarins. Legates were present expecially in case of episcopal elections (1072 and 1097), and in order to bring the pallium to the elected archbishops (1088/1089, 1097/1098, 1102) and, in one occasion, in order to remove an archbishop from his office (about 1088). In the period between 1088 and 1099 cardinal Arimanno was particularly active, appointed as vicarius for Longobardia by the popes Gregorio VII and Urbano II; at the beginning of the 12th century Pasquale II similarly appointed cardinal Bernardo degli Uberti vicarius for the same area.

Abstract
Documents evidence the arrival in Milan of several papal legates since 1057, at the time of the tensions growing within Milanese society owing to the preaching of the deacon Arialdo and his followers, the Patarins. Legates were present expecially in case of episcopal elections (1072 and 1097), and in order to bring the pallium to the elected archbishops (1088/1089, 1097/1098, 1102) and, in one occasion, in order to remove an archbishop from his office (about 1088). In the period between 1088 and 1099 cardinal Arimanno was particularly active, appointed as vicarius for Longobardia by the popes Gregorio VII and Urbano II; at the beginning of the 12th century Pasquale II similarly appointed cardinal Bernardo degli Uberti vicarius for the same area.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
