This dissertation investigates the industrial and contextual dynamics behind environmentalist animated television series for children, focusing on four case studies: MeteoHeroes, Cry Babies Little Changers, Captain Planet, and OMG! Travels. Adopting a production studies approach, it explores how environmental themes are integrated into children’s programming and the storytelling strategies employed to promote ecological awareness. Central to this analysis is the notion of “production ecology”, a conceptual framework that examines how creative, institutional, and socio-political forces interact to shape media production. The research covers the origins, development, distribution, marketing (especially licensing and merchandising), and audience reception of these series. With MeteoHeroes as the core case, the dissertation assesses the potential of green narratives to influence young viewers and contribute to environmental communication. It also proposes recommendations for industry stakeholders seeking to balance commercial goals with meaningful educational content
