Thirty years after the Fourth World Conference on Women and the release of the Beijing Platform for Action, Unicef has published the report Girl Goals: What has changed for girls? Adolescent girls' rights over 30 years and tries to paint a picture of the progress, which is undoubted, and the much that remains to be done. Literacy among women has halved, but although the number of girls in regular education has never been higher, it is estimated that those still without access to schooling number 122 million, and that one in four do not finish high school. L’alfabetismo tra le donne si è dimezzato, ma benché il numero delle bambine e delle ragazze che usufruiscono di regolari percorsi di istruzione non sia mai stato così alto, si stima che quelle ancora prive di accesso alla scuola siano 122 milioni, e che una su quattro non finisca le scuole superiori. Che proprio l'educazione possa fare la differenza nel promuovere la condizione femminile lo scriveva alla fine del Settecento Mary Wollstonecraft, ritenuta oggi la madre del femminismo moderno.
