This study examines the impact of restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic on the experiences and routines of CrossFit practitioners in Italy, focusing on the significance of face-to-face social interactions. Through semi-structured interviews with 23 participants, the research explored how lockdown measures disrupted the characteristic interaction rituals of the CrossFit environment, leading to a decline in motivation, emotional energy, and group belonging. The findings highlight that while online training failed to replicate the socio-emotional benefits of in-person activities, outdoor sessions and small-group workouts emerged as meaningful alternatives to mitigate the negative effects. The analysis is grounded in Collins' Interaction Ritual Chains theory, emphasising the importance of face-to-face connections for group cohesion and identity construction within sports communities.

Abstract
The analysis is grounded in Collins' Interaction Ritual Chains theory, emphasising the importance of face-to-face connections for group cohesion and identity construction within sports communities.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
