This contribution presents reflections on the need to rethink the paradigms of international cooperation in education offered by Professor Abdeljalil Akkari during the webinar that was organized on the 3 June 2021 by the UNESCO Chair of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore within the framework of the project “Dialogues of the UNESCO Chairs: A Laboratory of Ideas for the World to Come.” The precarious and uncertain times we are living in require us to rethink not only international cooperation but also the way education, universities, and the economy are organized and for what purposes. The first part of this contribution deals with the international agendas of education and their main characteristics; it then explores the strategies and evolution of international cooperation in the field of education; the third section provides some insights regarding the rationales which require us to rethink education and international cooperation; the contribution ends with a reflection on the role of university in this field.
