This paper evaluates the conception of knowledge in the “digital age.” The main challenge that the “digital revolution” poses to the traditional view of knowledge has to do with the widespread belief that machines have become capable of those intellectual operations that used to be exclusively human. In order to consider the consistency of this challenge, I will explore the epistemic differences between the notions of knowledge and information by maintaining that in the information societies the two notions are often confused. I will also claim that it is necessary to preserve the specifically philosophical approach to knowledge in order to preserve the integrity of human knowledge against any form of scientistic reduction.

Abstract
This paper evaluates the conception of knowledge in the “digital age.” The main challenge that the “digital revolution” poses to the traditional view of knowledge has to do with the widespread belief that machines have become capable of those intellectual operations that used to be exclusively human. In order to consider the consistency of this challenge, I will explore the epistemic differences between the notions of knowledge and information by maintaining that in the information societies the two notions are often confused. I will also claim that it is necessary to preserve the specifically philosophical approach to knowledge in order to preserve the integrity of human knowledge against any form of scientistic reduction.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
