The entry intends to give an overview of the main epistemological assumptions guiding evaluation practices and discusses the main controversies that nowadays crosscut the field. More in detail the entry will critically examine : the supposed neutrality of the evaluator when it comes to collecting evaluation data; the orientation toward quantification when designing evaluation research; the linearization of evaluation outcomes and the consequent mechanization of human being and behavior when designing interventions; the commodification of the evaluation data. The entry will finally advocate for a responsible management of the evaluation process and gives insights to maintain a critical eye when applying evaluation in different organizational contexts.

Abstract
The entry intends to give an overview of the main epistemological assumptions guiding evaluation practices and discusses the main controversies that nowadays crosscut the field. More in detail the entry will critically examine : the supposed neutrality of the evaluator when it comes to collecting evaluation data; the orientation toward quantification when designing evaluation research; the linearization of evaluation outcomes and the consequent mechanization of human being and behavior when designing interventions; the commodification of the evaluation data. The entry will finally advocate for a responsible management of the evaluation process and gives insights to maintain a critical eye when applying evaluation in different organizational contexts.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
