In the light of an extensive literature, the contribution explores a series of indicators on a provincial basis capable of detecting structural economic, social, administrative and institutional factors that characterise the production fabric and influence the development path of territories. The analysis reveals the high heterogeneity of the so-called Mezzogiorno and the need to calibrate analyses and interventions on distinct groups of circumscribed territorial areas.
Il contributo esplora alla luce di un'ampia letteratura una serie di indicatori su base provinciale capaci di rilevare fattori strutturali economici, sociali, amministrativi, istituzionali che connotano il tessuto produttivo e influenzano il sentiero di sviluppo dei territori. Dall'analisi emerge l'elevata eterogeneità del cosiddetto Mezzogiorno e la necessità di tarare analisi e interventi su gruppi distinti di aree territoriali circoscritte.
