The article explores the concept of waiting in human life, analyzing how the acts of knowing and wanting connect us to a reality that goes beyond the immediate perception of the present. It examines the distinction between simply waiting and waiting with desire and trust, underlining the human ability to project ourselves into the future and face the unexpected. Through references to Plato, Heraclitus and Homer, the importance of leaving space for the unexpected and of considering waiting as a way to overcome the ontic dimension is highlighted. The nihilism of our time and the need to find meaning in a seemingly meaningless reality is discussed, suggesting that the interpretation of finite things can lead to a deeper understanding of the infinite and the eternal.

Abstract
The article explores the concept of waiting in human life, analyzing how the acts of knowing and wanting connect us to a reality that goes beyond the immediate perception of the present. It examines the distinction between simply waiting and waiting with desire and trust, underlining the human ability to project ourselves into the future and face the unexpected. Through references to Plato, Heraclitus and Homer, the importance of leaving space for the unexpected and of considering waiting as a way to overcome the ontic dimension is highlighted. The nihilism of our time and the need to find meaning in a seemingly meaningless reality is discussed, suggesting that the interpretation of finite things can lead to a deeper understanding of the infinite and the eternal.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
