The volume collects 16 poetries in Arab language with the Italian translation in front, which was created by a group of scholars of the Arab literature within the wider project Dòsti – Festival of the religious arts and cultures in Brescia. Thanks to the Dòsti Association, and the Islamic Cultural Center in Brescia, this volume represents an attempt to build an intercultural communication in the public space, in which the poetic language interplays with other arts (concept of plural and shared performativity). The current post-secularisation age pushes many people towards a re-discovery of the sacred and, in a multicultural area as Brescia (and the Northern Italy), the process entails the increasing visibility of the minorities’ religions. According to this, the book showcases as the Arab language embraced in times a large number of cultures, nations and religions (Hebraism, Christianity and Islam). The poets and poetesses included in this collection wrote their verses since VI sec. A.C. to nowadays and sing the mystery of the human existence. The corpus of lyrics is divided in three sections: 1) the suffering of the heart; 2) patience, wisdom and hope; 3) the death and beyond.
