Le ragioni del latino

Many interventions in recent decades have insisted on the 'pleasure of Latin'. The reasons for Latin asks, more radically, whether the study of this language can once again play a role in education. The proposal of this book is to consider the whole history of Latin, i.e. more than two millennia of European cultural history, without limiting itself to the couple of centuries that are defined as 'classical'. The volume presents itself as an invitation to rethink, even operationally, the language of European culture. The topics covered range from the linguistic role of Latin in the construction of modern languages, to the constant presence of Latin in the history of music, to the constitutive relationship between Latin and Christianity, to hints on the educational success of Latin at a European level. All the chapters are accompanied by numerous illustrations and examples, with an essential bibliography of references, in order to make reading easy and to allow those who wish to fully document themselves to have the necessary tools at their disposal.
