Within the yearly report on the city of Milan promoted by the “Fondazione Ambrosianeum”, this essay focuses the attention on the women’s experience and their relation with the local labour market. It identifies in the persistence of strong care responsibilities towards their families members the main obstacle to women participation in the labour market, but also a reason of a situation of “functional overcharge”. Finally, it stresses the need of a new policy approach, in order to promote the quality of life but also to sustain the demographic growth.
