Starting with an overview of new global developments in tourism, the paper aims to compare communication practices in the hospitality industry from a linguistic and cultural perspective. Particular focus will be placed on trends, strategic goals and tools of outbound hotel communication from a German-Italian point of view. Though Italy is traditionally one of the favourite destinations of German travelers, the number of contrastive studies dealing specifically with Italian and German hotel communication is still relatively small. This is the reason why the paper provides some theoretical and methodological insights for addressing comparative linguistic research in this field, also with a view to offering hospitality agents - dealing with clients from different cultures - useful suggestions towards a more impactful and higher quality pre-stay, living-in and post-stay guest communication.

Abstract
Starting with an overview of new global developments in tourism, the paper aims to compare communication practices in the hospitality industry from a linguistic and cultural perspective. Particular focus will be placed on trends, strategic goals and tools of outbound hotel communication from a German-Italian point of view. Though Italy is traditionally one of the favourite destinations of German travelers, the number of contrastive studies dealing specifically with Italian and German hotel communication is still relatively small. This is the reason why the paper provides some theoretical and methodological insights for addressing comparative linguistic research in this field, also with a view to offering hospitality agents - dealing with clients from different cultures - useful suggestions towards a more impactful and higher quality pre-stay, living-in and post-stay guest communication.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
