Within the yearly Italian Report on Migrations (2007’s edition) realised by the ISMU Foundation – the main Italian scientific institution on migrations and interethnic cohabitation – this chapter focuses the attention on migrants’ insertion in the Italian labour market. After providing a brief general picture of major European and international trends about economic migrations and their regulation, it takes into consideration the characterising features of migrant labour demand’s and supply’s. A special attention is also given to the phenomena of independent workers and entrepreneurs with a migratory background. Finally, it develops some concluding remarks and suggestions about the Italian approach to economic migrations and their management. The contribution is also available in the Italian version (see: “Il lavoro”, XIII Rapporto sulle migrazioni)
