Within the yearly Italian Report on Migrations (2001’s edition) realised by the ISMU Foundation – the main Italian scientific institution on migrations and interethnic cohabitation – this chapter focuses the attention on the question of programming the flow of immigration for work motives. After providing a picture of the European trends and perspectives, it describes the needs of the Italian firms, thanks to the results of the Unioncamere-Excelsior monitoring system. Finally, it develops some concluding remarks and suggestions on labour migrations management, starting from an assessment of the critical points of the Italian situation. Abstract
