Within the yearly Italian Report on Migrations (1995’s edition) realised by the ISMU Foundation – the main Italian scientific institution on migrations and interethnic cohabitation – this chapter focuses the attention on local societies reaction to the arrival of immigrants in their territory. A special attention is devoted to the role of voluntary and no-profit organisations. In the concluding considerations, policies for migrants are presented as a sort of mirror of local societies weakness and strength, of their identity and capacity of inclusion. Abstract
