Abstract

What does humanization of medicine and care mean? Is it really possible to conceive, plan and implement pedagogically characterized paths with authentic concern for people in the healthcare sector? What type of training can be considered integral for building the identity of the medical professional and for the expert exercise of his skills in everyday working life? Training for the humanization of medicine calls for a perspective of multidisciplinary and multiprofessional collaboration, between knowledge and action, between scientific knowledge, collaboration strategies and the desire to take care of others. Through a phenomenological-hermeneutic approach, the work interprets some conceptual complexes of particular relevance in the complex and varied panorama of the humanization of medicine and care, to identify their educational potential, good operational practices and theoretical concepts that can contribute to an elaboration pedagogy of medical training. The volume, the result of the doctoral research carried out at the Radiotherapy Center of the Agostino Gemelli IRCCS University Polyclinic Foundation, called Gemelli ART (Catholic University of the Sacred Heart of Rome), and the School of Specialization in Radiotherapy of the same university, allows us to reflect on good practices that belong in particular to the daily work of radiation oncologists, on significant experiences regarding humanization and on some training projects interpreted from a pedagogical point of view. The humanization of medicine and treatments places the person-doctor as a scientifically prepared and morally oriented, virtuous, trained subject: beyond stereotypes and misunderstandings, a priori preclusions or simplistic enthusiasms, humanizing means representing the identity of the specialist doctor between competence and hospitality, where both must intersect pedagogically in the time of professional life, in the workplace and in the interiority of people, in the deepest anthropological foundation. Training and humanization of medicine and treatments. A pedagogical reflection, a commitment and an ethical-ontological appeal to which one is taught to respond, between science and conscience.
