"Il Saggiatore" (The Assayer), published in October 1623, is one of Galileo's most famous works, which originated in the context of a controversy over the nature of comets that appeared in 1618 with the Jesuit Orazio Grassi. This new edition contains an extensive commentary, which provides information and historical-critical insights into the theories and scientific-philosophical concepts discussed by Galileo, the evolution of his ideas, as well as the views of contemporary authors such as Tycho Brahe and Johannes Kepler. The commentary notes also explain the meaning of technical terms and vocabulary no longer in use in today's Italian. The extensive introduction traces the historical, political and cultural context in which Galileo wrote the work, describing its genesis and the long and complex printing process.

Abstract
The extensive introduction traces the historical, political and cultural context in which Galileo wrote the work, describing its genesis and the long and complex printing process.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
